And the next phase begins

July 8, 2012

So when I was last on here I was feeling discouraged and skeptical if this is for me. I was feeling like the type of guys on here aren’t the type I am looking for but I think I was being closed minded. I think it is all about meeting the people and really getting a feel for it. I can’t base shit off what they have on the website. So now I think it is time for me to enter the next stage of this process…actually going out on dates with some of the guys. Talk about a scary thing that I have to do. Put myself out there and actually meet people. That is a bit of a nerve-racking idea because I am going to actually have to meet with people and interact in person. With  actually going out on dates I feel like there is a lot of opportunity to get rejected and to also get put in awkward situations. But, if I want to actually do this online dating thing and find someone for me I need to put myself out there and stop being guarded in the first place. Beside the whole guarded act is how I got here in the first place.

I just logged in and I have 6 emails, 9 matches, and 6 people interested in me. Let’s take a look at the people interested in me first. Ok, so no to all 6 people. They are not my type at all.
Lets look at my matches. Ok, so there is a 30 year old guy who looks like a ton of fun. He is divorced but oh well. I’m putting him in my “interested” column and we will see if he makes any moves.  So, I liked all but 2 people. I put them all in my interested column and I am feeling a little uplifted today. Wow, so maybe there are guys on here that would be guys I’m interested in. Let’s just hope they are interested back in me. I wonder if I need to do more then just put them in that category? Should I make further moves like throw out a wink or something? I just never know what to do on here sometimes.

SO on to emails…

OMG!!! Mr. Straight Shooter asked me out. He like scheduled a date. OMG!

His email:
Monday sounds good, do you like chicken wings? I go to his place every mo day it has the best this side of the Mississippi. It's called knock back nats, would you be interested

My response:
Hey, I have been to knock back’s quite a few times so that is fine with me. What time would you want to meet?

So that was easy and very nonchalant on my part. I guess I will freak out when he emails me a time. Lucky for me my chest and back are peeling so I’m going to need to plan my wardrobe accordingly.

What the F is this? Someone just instant messaged me. How did he do that? How did he know I was on here? I swear I am perplexed by online dating every day. This is one of the guys I pressed the next button on today so I’m not responding. And his user name is “cloudninja” what the f? That name just screams “I’m WEIRD.” Whatever.

Next email is from some dork that I am not responding to .

His email:
hi EKC
Just wanted to say hello and ask if youd like to talk sometime?

My response….Nothing.

Mr. Go Getter emailed me again…
RE: Hi, you seemed like someone with a good head on...
I work in a fine dining kitchen. I like it but I'm over the culinary thing. I'm hoping to have a job at the Cincinnati film commission by next month.

How's the site working for you so far?

My Response:
Hey,
Well I hope you get the job you really want. I have only been on ***** for about a week so I am still trying to learn how to do everything but I guess okay. It is kind of a weird concept but I’m open to anything. I’ve had some really crazy people contact me and some girls too (?) but I have had some really nice and normal people contact me too. How about you? Has ****** been good for you?

I feel like I literally have some of the same conversations over and over again.

Remember Mr. Bonus Question who asked me the Wedding Crashers quote? Well he emailed back. He is pretty legit because he is funny and just easy. I don’t feel like it is forced and he takes control of the conversation which is superb!

His email:
RE: Grab that net and catch that beautiful butterfly
Hi I'm glad I just made the cut! I'd have to say the places at the top of my travel wish list are Italy (just because it looks beautiful) and Germany (where my ancestors are from). Sadly I have never been out of the country before (I don't count Canada and my two trips to Windsor when I was in college haha) but I recently got my passport and hoping to put it to good use.

It's great to hear you love what you do, and it fits well since you are a self professed book dork ;) I love my job too. I'm a chiropractor and can't imagine doing anything else besides helping people live happier, healthier lives!

I've been on a kick recently of trying to read some classic novels. So I finished Crime and Punishment, House of the Seven Gables, and The Count of Monte Cristo (long!) recently and deciding what to start next. Any suggestions?
Hope you're having a great weekend!

ps. I guess you get the bonus points even though you cheated ;)

My Response:
Hey,

You most definitely need to put that passport to use.  I have only been to Jamaica and Mexico so I have never really traveled outside the U.S. either.

Haha I am a huge book dork and I live for the summertime so I can read at the pool and beach.
If there is one thing a chiropractor does, it is help people live happier! I used to love going to the chiropractor. That’s a pretty sweet job. It is good to hear you love it because I can’t think of anything worse then being miserable every day at work.

Those are some pretty ambitious reading choices. Good for you trying out the classics.  I read much more light-hearted books. I don’t know if you would like my book recommendations. I read girly things and young adult books ha but 50 Shades of Grey is #1 on NY Times bestseller list.  You can join the phenomenon and read that trilogy?J  Any plans for the week? Talk to you soon.

He is easy to talk to because of all the humor.

Mr. FellowOU is back. He is a nice guy so let’s see what he has to say…

His email:
RE:
Well I appreciate that. So what part of town u live in? How long have you been on ******* and have u ever met anyone on here?

My Response:
Hey,

I live in Hyde Park. I have been on ******* for about a week. I just started and I am still trying to figure everything out. It has been an ok experience so far. I have had some really crazy people contact me and I have even oddly enough had girls contact me haha. But I have also had some really nice guys contact me. How about you? How long have you been on ******** and have you ever met people?

E

How many times have I had to answer this damn question?

YEA MR. WEIGHT LIFTER! I always love getting his email.

His email:
RE: Subject
Hey E :)

Glad to hear that your Columbus trip went well, it's always nice to take trips out of town when you can. I love traveling, I'm hoping to plan a trip to the beach in the next couple of months. I try to make it to the ocean at least once a year if I can.

Hopefully in August when you move it won't be quite so hot, it has been pretty rough helping my brother move out in this heat lol.

How did the car wash and the bachelorette party end up going?

This weekend I've mostly just been hanging out with friends and cleaning up the house, today is laundry-grocery day lol..

Do you have a busy week coming up this week?

My Response:

Hey,

I love the beach so I think you should totally make a trip soon. I go to the beach once a year also. My family has been going to Hilton Head Island since I was 7 so I always look forward to that. I am not an ocean person though. I just lay on the beach all day. The ocean freaks me out. I think I have watched 1 too many shark weeks.

My dad has started to move some of my stuff and we have been dying. Note to self: never move in the dead of July. It is miserable so I feel your pain on that one. I actually am taking a pledge after this move that I am not going to move for 2 years. I just hate having to move.

The car wash was good. We made enough money to pay for the things we needed. But I will tell you, standing on Route 4 in 103 degree weather is not something I want to do again. We were dying! The poor girls were sweating but still peppy. The bachelorette party was fun too. We definitely had a really good time.

I do laundry and go to the grocery on Sundays too. J Glad you had a good weekend.

This week I have to start getting my school stuff ready already but I am going to try and do a lot of it at the pool. I am in a wedding this weekend so I have to get my stuff ready for that, and dance practice. Not too much for this week. How about you?

E

It is literally so easy to talk to him. And I don’t know why but I literally feel like he is wise and settled and comfortable. There is something about him I like.

Wow go getter is
RE: Hi, you seemed like someone with a good head on...
It's had it's ups and downs. I've only been on for a few weeks and gone on a few dates, but good I guess. The whole the concept 5 or so years ago was so "weird" but it seems a little acceptable now. I've met/talked to more normal women then I have crazy people, so I guess that's a good thing.

So how do you spend your summers off? My mother's a preschool teacher and I know the switch of full time to free time would sometimes bore her.

My Response:

I’m glad you have had a good experience so far! That is very encouraging to hear. I have high hopes.

Well this summer is the first summer that I am not working towards my Master’s degree so I was bored at first. Now I kind of have my routine set. I go to the gym in the morning, go to the pool during the day, and I coach the dance team at my school so I usually have dance practice at night. I am also in the process of moving so I have been doing A LOT of packing. I think next year I will probably get a job during the summer just because I like to have things to look forward. It is an odd feeing to think about your week and know that you don’t have anything you must do during the week.

That is so great that your mom is a teacher! I am a middle school teacher so thinking about teaching preschool is scary! Talk to you soon.

Wow 2 emails in one blog! He is on it today. In the time I have been answering emails he has emailed me back. For some reason I feel like my first email to him in this blog wasn’t good. He kinda ripped the fact that I called the concept of online dating weird. I don’t know why I’m feeling like this but I do.

So Straight shooter emailed me back and we are meeting at 7 tomorrow. Holy cow. We are meeting at 7 tomorrow as in less than 24 hours. Omg I’m going on a real live date in less than 24 hours and it is like a real blind date. Like I don’t know if I could pick him out of a crowd when I walk into the place. Like that is awkward. Do I walk in and look around and hope he sees me and gets me so I’m not weirdly looking around? I hope I can pull this shit together tomorrow. I just need to be confident and be myself. What do I have to lose? I mean if it is terrible there is always another million people on here. Wish me luck.
